Subject A Country Fool comes to town (Part 1)

In a small village in Solamnia there once was a small boy who loved the
animals. He was a very kind-hearted boy and as time went on he showed talent
at healing those friends.

The local Priest noticed the boy's power and brought him into the church. He
was happy to learn, and the Old Priest was a kindly one, yet the boy was
always in the woods.

His attention would often wander during study and frequently he had to be
called in after dark.

But even so the Priest showed patience and the boy grew into a tall, lanky
young man. As he grew so did his powers, until the Priest's own were
surpassed. "BOY!!!" The Priest yelled at the nearby woods, "Get on back
now!"

The boy quietly and invisibly slips into the room then becomes visible behind
the Priest. "You needed me Father?" the Priest jumps and exclaims, "How many
times have I told you!" As the boy chuckles the Priest suddenly looks very
serious. "We need to talk."

"Is something wrong Father?" The boy asks worriedly, seeming suddenly unsure.

Turning to a large cupboard the Father pulls down off a top shelf a large grey
backpack. "You must take this and go- there is a Temple in Palanthas, you must
study there now." The boy looks scared and blurts out, "Did I do something?
I'm sorry whatever I did!" "It's not like that boy, it just time for you to
go. They can continue your training now." The Priest sadly begins to help the
stunned boy pack his few belongings and some food. "Don't Worry boy, it's only
a few days walk to the City. And you knows these woods well." The boy doesn't
even speak a word, in stunned silence he finishes packing and pauses at the
door.

"I'll be back as soon as I can, I'm sure everything will be fine here until
then" The Old Priest nods but somewhat sadly, for unlike the young one he
knows that cannot be. "Go now, we waste the sunlight with our goodbyes" He
turns away quickly to hide a small tear.

As he turns back to watch the boy figure disappear into the woods he wonders
what Fate will bring.
