Author: Leonius Date Fri Jun 30 19:34:54 2006 Subject ---Hope Defeated--- It seems the Solamnic's are as petty as the Cataclysm would have us remember. Palanthas, the jewel of Solamnia, is no longer the shining diamond I remember. The crime and decadence that infests the city boils uncontained by the knights who care more for their own appearances than thwarting evil. The glorious Knighthood my father spoke of to me no longer exists, in its place is a hollow and rotting shell. One Knight ruined my perception of the once glorious institution: a Lord Knight by the name of Cormac. Now the question of what to do with myself echoes in my mind. Over my shoulder is slung all that I have left of my family: my father's fire-blackened armor. In my mind's eye I still see the beautiful rose, tarnished and dulled by the flames that consumed my past. One thing pushes me forwards, a burning desire to bring justice to the ones who foully murdered my kin. It's a desire greater than myself. One I used to attribute to Kiri-Jolith, yet after seeing his servants I find myself in doubt. I've lived long enough to know that criminals are a dangerous type. The ones in Palanthas can be especially dangerous, and I'll need someone to watch my back before I dig too deep. I had hoped to get that help from the Knighthood. No other organizations seem likely to help me in this matter: the rogues are as bad as the rest of the criminals, I have no money for mercenaries, the conclave would not even bother to speak to me, and the wildrunners do not trouble themselves with problems outside of their forest. But perhaps I have one other choice... All my life I've been taught to revile Takhisis and the evil she represents, but rumours persist of an honourable knighthood that has formed around her. I wince as I consider the possibility, the armor sack feeling especially heavy at this moment, but I know it may be my only option. I whisper over my shoulder, "I'll give your knighthood one last chance father." Looking towards the Solamnic's offices, I resolve to find the Grandmaster and speak with him before I let my path turn to "evil".
