Stylk MarCaela is the son of Daron Caela. They are said to be a minor branch of the Caela family by way of Roderick and Marie Di Caela, though the family has had difficulty supporting their claim. The story goes that after Roderick's death in 211 AC, Marie traveled northwest through Elkholm and over the mountains to live with some cousins in Winterholm and there the tree grew. Stylk mostly grew up in Korval, Coastlund attending the little boarding school on the west bank of the River of Healing. After school he returned to Winterholm to help his family repay the debt they incurred for his education. Stylk was fond of his mother but was always an independent child. His Father worked long hours and spent little affection on his family, preferring instead to obsess over his craft. Stylk's arrival was more the byproduct of a biological necessity than the seed of love. The boarding school was his Father's way of absolving himself of being an absentee parent while simultaneously satisfying his paternal responsibility to raise his child thus, saving face in the community. Stylk always had a fancy for stories of fantastical adventures and pursuits not accessible to his family and station. Because of this, his days at work in his family's textile mill were spent daydreaming about heroes - both present and historical - and the future adventures he hoped to have. His evenings were spent practicing with a meticulously polished but poorly tempered sword that had developed dings down the blade and a slight lean seemingly originating from the tang. A tool of poor quality, it was the only weapon he could afford and he had grown to love it despite its obvious unworthiness for any type of real combat. He had flirted somewhat with a Korval girl near his school for a time but had mainly felt it a distraction from his true passion so when he finished school, he cut off social pursuits to focus on his dream of becoming a Solamnic Knight. He was both an introvert and an extrovert in that he preferred the solitude of his daydreams and practicing but when the situation arose, he could make a fair pass as a conversationalist. His connection to books had fostered a love of words resulting in a strong vocabulary and a breadth of knowledge that was often disarmingly enjoyable. It was never that he had trouble making connections with people, like flirting, it was that he found little use for present company. In the fall of 369 AC, Stylk resolved his debt with his Father and set out to pursue his dream with little but his battered training sword and a few books.
