Getting angry and
shame-filled looks, Athin stumbled down the streets
of Theibardin
to his favorite bar. Bursting loudly through the door,
he slumped
down on a stool and screamed.
'Spirits, you lazy
whore!'
Sighing 'Yes Sir', the barmaid filled his order and
took his money.
All of it. Athin was broke and that was it. There
was nothing left from
the past. Taking a long pull, Athin glanced
around the room. Normally
noone else would be in the disgusting,
decrepit place. However, a human
covered entirely in black robes
was sitting quietly at a table.

Immediately Athin assumed it
was another sent by the Conclave to kill
him after he had
abandoned the moons. The human chose this moment to
look up, and
they met eyes. Finishing his spirits, Athin made a
decision.
Slowly standing up, he moved over to the table and
plopped down next
to the man.
'If youre here to kill me as a
renegade, then do so. Ive got nothing
left for this
life.
Chuckling, the man responded in barely a whisper..
'No,
I am not here for that. Rather, I come with an offer. one
that
may entice you to live just a bit longer'
Athin
sneered.
'Oh? Unless you want to pay for my spirits, there is
nothing you
can offer me.
Standing, Athin made his way towards
the door.
You had potential Athin Kantiran. But those three
didnt see it, did
they. They feared what you might become; what
you were becoming'

Screaming in rage, Athin turned and began
to cast one of the few
spells he could remember. The words became
jumbled in his mouth however,
and the man wheezed in pleasure.
Standing up, the man in black
walked over to Athin and touched
his forehead. Screaming in more
anger and pain from his touch.
Pulling out a dagger, Athin began to
lunge. He moved sluggishly
from the pain however, and the man easily
avoided the desperate
move.
'Try the spell again'
Confused, Athin again lunged in
anger with his dagger. The man stepped
into the movement and
landed a punch square on Athin's nose.
'Try again'

Stumbling up, Athin decided to be a bit more obedient and humor
the man
Uttering the words to a weak lightning bolt spell, Athin
pointed at the figure
expecting nothing to work. However,
lightning began to arc between his
fingers and in the exctasy of
power he began throwing it around the room.
The lightning hit the
barmaid square in the chest, killing her instantly. No matter
how
much he tried though, his lightning would not touch the
human.
During this power frenzy, the man walked up to Athin and
touched him again
on the forehead and instantly Athins newfound
powers were gone.

Athin stumbled to the ground, angry and
depressed at this demonstration
of power over him. Looking at the
man with greedy and pleading eyes,
he searched for something to
say. As the man turned and walked out, he
whispered one
thing.
