Subject How Bayn got his name.

Bayn has always been sly, conniving, and evil, and it came of no surprise to anyone, much less to himself, when the other Theiwar dwarves tried to drown him - the worst possible ending for a dwarf. Born small, covered in indigo black fur, his eyes glowing with the color of blood, his father and elders quickly made a sign to ward off evil. The shamaness threw her ancient bones and in a haunted whisper to Bayn's father, "Goebli, go drown this babe . I see only darkness, strife and bloodshed for our clan as long as he is allowed to live." But Bayn's mother grabbed the tiny baby, holding it up to her bosom, her eyes flashing, "Stay away from my son. I don't believe your readings. No son of mine would ever hurt me or our kind." Goebli gave in to his wife's pleading. Holding up the babe so everyone could see it. "Here is my son, I name him Bayn." Goebli hoped by changing spelling, he could circumvent the shamaness' vision for his son. Bayn grew up quickly, the target of the other Theiwar youth, persecuted and chased whenever they spied him. Smaller than any other dwarf, he learned to hide in the shadows, one with the Night. His magic ability soon bypassed many of the Theiwar adults, and he found ways to exact his revenge on his persecutors. Then one night, he closed his eyes, calling upon the goddess Takhisis to grant his wish to learn dark Magic. Drawing his sharp onyx dagger, he drew dark, powerful runes on his face, drops of dark red blood falling in a small bowl. Speaking the archane words of the terrible, powerful spell, demonfire, he released the spell upon the clan. Soon, bloodcurdling screams filled the night as the dark flames were felt by all. With a cry, Bayn ran to his house, dreading to look after he opened the door. Sobbing, he found the body of his mother, charred by the demonfire. Falling to the ground, he sat there comatose. When the other dwaves found him, they grabbed him, murder in their eyes, and dragged him to the edge of the lake. Tying a huge stone to his bound hands and feet, they cast his body into the cold water and Bayn sank beneath the waves. A sense of calm came over him, Bayn offered a prayer to Takhisis "My Goddess, accept my body and soul. From this day forward, I am totally yours - either in life or death." Just then his body slammed into a rocky outcrop, the rough edge slicing through his bonds, and his arms and legs covered with blood, he swam to the surface, careful not to make a sound. Finding a nearby boat, he untied it and slowly sailed away from his old home, now filled with a sense of purpose as he sought to master the dark Magic.
