Subject Furax's Beginnings

The earliest memory Furax had was of his stealing an apple. This event wasn't
very successful for the owner of the stand saw what Furax did and chased him.
Being a small boy, Furax was not able to outrun the beast of a man and was on
the receiving end of a thumping. After cursing and spitting at Furax, the
owner reclaimed his property and left leaving Furax lying on the floor. Furax,
tears streaming down his face, wondered what he had done that left him with
this miserable fate. Furax crawled into an alley and lay down, quietly sobbing
and nursing his wounds. Everyone treated him horribly and no one felt inclined
to pity him. Furax did not realize until later on that his heritage -
half-human and half-elf - had played a large role in his being treated as an
outcast. However, at the time Furax was just a little boy who was confused and
miserable with his lot in life.

Similar events occurred often which ensured that Furax would have an injury of
some sort most of the time. However, each event was a reiteration of the
simple fact that if he got caught he would be in a world of pain. This harsh
lifestyle taught Furax to become much more stealthful and his natural
dexterity allowed him to acquire food without getting caught too often. Each
passing year marked a great improvement in Furax's skill leaving him with less
and less injuries. As Furax's skill grew, so did his confidence until one day
he decided that he would begin pickpocketing as opposed to stealing food. He
slowly but surely began to hone his skills and his ability to target those
that were least likely to notice that their coin purse was missing until it
was too late for them.

Because of Furax's poverty stricken childhood, Furax soon became enamored by
money. To Furax money was the solution to everything. By accumulating enough
wealth, Furax believed that all his problems would be solved. He worked daily,
pocketing as much money as he could. At the end of each day, he would count
how much he had made while eatting a simple but great dinner of bread and
cheese. Furax did not feel satisfied with the amount of money he was
accumulating each day. The amount earned seemed very paltry and Furax
definitely desired a lot more than that. While contemplating other avenues of
acquiring the wealth he desired, Furax heard of a rumor being whispered. This
rumor consisted of a group of people that had similar inclinations as he did.
Intrigued, Furax decided that he would try and seek out these people...perhaps
even join their ranks and share in their prosperity...
