Author: Glirp Date: Tue Mar 2 01:07:11 2010 Subject A Passing of the Parchment The little gnome sits in a small room with soft cushion covered chairs. The chair he sits in has a footrest built in; but it seems to be broken as it has just recently inverted Glirp. "Goshitseemsitcouldbeanexcellentinventionifitwouldworkright," the young gnome states, to himself more than anyone else in the room. He quickly hops off the chair and pulls several tools out from his belt. He begins tinkering with the chair while the rest look on. Soon a bald gnome enters through one of the two doors with a grave look on his face. "Iamsorry.IhavedoneeverythingIcanforhim.Hejustwontmakeit." The young gnome hears what the balding gnome says but just works through the empty feeling that is growing in his stomach. As he does so an older woman walks over to him and holds him. "Mysonpleasestop.Iknowithurtsbuthewantstoseeyou.Goplayhimabeutifulsong." Glirp stands and begins to walk towards the door where the balding man had come from, while putting his tools back in his belt. As he enters the door he sees the frail old gnome lying in a bed, attached to many odd machines. Completed lifequests, he thinks, as he steps forward and pulls out a case that was strapped to his back. He opens the case and produces a beautiful melodica. The melodica is made from vallenwood, and has pearl keys. There are several gems set into it as well. The young gnome brings the mouth piece to his mouth and plays a tune for his dying father. Smiling, his father motions for him to come closer; and in a small voice he states, "Youknewthatthisdaywouldcome.IloveyoumysonandnowImustpassonlifequestthatIha- efailedtocomplete.Youareafarbetterinventorthanmeandentertaineratthat.Here." The dying gnome leans over and hands Glirp a piece of parchment sealed with wax. "Thankyouforbeinganexcellentson.Andthankyouforonelastbeautifulsong," the older gnome says, smiling, "Nowifyouwouldsendinttheothersasyougothatwouldbegreat." The young gnome exits the room and motions to the others that they should go in. The rest enter in silence as Glirp breaks the wax seal on the parchment. He than reads the parchment that details where his father's hidden lab is and a map that leads to it. It also tells him what his lifequest is to be..."Adevicetorecordandprojecteventsoftheworld?!" Author: Glirp Date: Sat Jan 21 19:26:50 2017 Subject MyGoodManSomeone begins pounding on the gnome's room at the inn, and a voice is heard along with the racket, "Hurry up, little man, we are leaving immediately." Glirp jumps at the reminder then looks at the device on his hand, meant to tell the time of the day. Eight separate dials spin inside the face of the invention, but the gnome frowns at it. "Blastedthingneverworks," he says, then begins hastily sliding materials and tools from the table in the room, into his bag, but gingerly places select tools in the loops on his tool belt. He wipes his hands on the leather apron he wears, then throws the bag over his shoulder and runs out the door. He nearly runs into the hulk of a man, getting ready to beat on the door once more. "Lookoutmygoodman!" The man rolls his eyes, then leads the tinker gnome down the stairs of the inn, through the tavern, and outside. Five wagons await the duo as they exit the inn, and the gnome jumps into the back of the nearest one. The large man jumps into the same wagon, and with a whip of the reins, the wagon jerks forward along with the other four. "So, where was it you were saying you wanted to go?" the man asks, a friendly tone to his voice. "TowerofWayrethmygoodman.Ihavetoseeifthemagickstheyhavetherecandoanythingto- elpmewithmylifequest.Youwouldntunderstand.Mosthumansdon't." The man looks back aghast, "You're right, I don't understand. For one, I don't know why anyone would want to be a party to what goes on in that place, and two, there is no way in. You would get lost in the forest trying to find it." "Ah.Thatiswhereyouarewrong.Ihavecreatedadevicethatwillallowmetogetthroughth- forestwithoutgettinglost," Glirp says, fishing out a small box from inside the leather sack. YouseeitislikeacompassbutspecificallywillgetyouthroughWayrethForest." He flips the box open, and the dial inside begins to spin faster and faster till the box explodes in a huge flash of light. The man looks back to find the gnomes face covered in soot. "No more activating any of your inventions in my wagon," the man says with concern in his voice, obviously for his possessions. "Willdomygoodman.ButIpromiseyouitwillworktogetmethroughtheforest." Sometime later, the wagon rumbles to a stop. "Here we are, wee one. Best of luck to you." "Thankyoumygoodman.Gooddaytoyou," he says before hopping out of the wagon with his leather sack. He stands in front of an inn of sorts, and behind the inn is nothing but forest. Glirp nods, then pulls out the small box once more. He flips it open, and the dial begins to spin, faster and faster.
