-=Excerpt from the minutes of the Regional Committee For Analyzing Purposeful Progress - 'The Problem With Brobdingnagian Mesofauna: A Big Issue' by Gnirollankaerdallin Spidersticker=- Gentlebeings, the truth lies before us clear as pane glass. When we consider the purpose of our arachnid friends, we invariably arrive at a few constants. One, spiders build webs. Two, those webs often fill the corners of households. Three, spiders use webs to capture flies. This is a part of the natural world, the right and proper order of things. We, as gnomes, also have a keen purpose to improve our world around us, not just here in our mountains, but in the Outside world as well. A lot of people don't fully understand my family's long-dormant Life Quest to rid the world of giant spiders, so I hope to make the purpose clearer today. Having established the purpose and hallmarks of arachnids, let us now look to logic. We agree that spiders have a place in the world, but what about giant spiders? Where are they finding corners large enough to place their cobwebs? In the homes of giants? A possiblity, but recall that the number of giant abodes is far less than the number of giant spiders. Even then, I posit to you - if such webs (in theory) can find such corners (in theory) or gardens (also theory)...where are they going to find flies big enough to catch in their webs? They cannot. We must conclude, brothers and sisters of natural science, that a spider who cannot catch a fly therefore serves no purpose. Giant spiders are an aberration. This is why I have come to the decision to return my family's name to Spider-sticker, and to devote my arcane talents to the art of destruction. A grave mis-step in the natural order has been made, and I believe I am the gnome to correct it. I therefore ask this Committee's permission to seek the Tower of High Sorcery. As a wise philosopher once said, 'when the machine breaks down, we break down'. Even the smallest thread out of place can break the machine! The Guild of Tailors can attest to this... -=End Excerpt=-
