Author: Illych Date Thu Jun 29 22:43:07 2006 Subject Illych Vladimir Ulyonov 20 years have past since my conception. I remember the momment well. It was a rainy fall day, my mother lay sweating on the bed in thier humble home. It was a long painful birthing, the midwife did not believe that my mother would survive. After I had freed myself and took my first breaths my mother passed out in exhaustion and pain. For several days I saw nothing of my mother I spent the days with my father looking out over our lands to the mountains. For those days I was feed just 3 times, when my father payed for a woman to come to our home and feed my from her breasts. My mother seemed to recover getting stronger daily and we grew close. It was near my 5th birthday that I awoke one morning to find my father crying over my mother who lay dead in his arms. The next several years were difficult for both my father and myself, it seemed I was in need of constant care I was always getting myself into trouble or lost in the mountains. Many was the time I would sit on a peak watching the Knights of Solamnia. I saw them riding in formation along the roads below, once they had saved me from a band of bandits. I had stumbled into thier camp by accident, and luckily I was able to get out and run. For some unknown reason I ran into a group of Knights, where I had never seen before up in the mountains in any kind of group. The battle was quick and bloody over in a few minutes. It was the first time in my life I had seen another man killed. It was an eye opening experience for me. I followed them back to thier keep hoping to see more of them and learn. I was 15 by this time and I began to spend more and more time away from home, my father hardly noticed as he was consumed by his work and by drink. For several years I lived like this camping by thier gates hunting for my food. It was on my 18th birthday that things had changed for me. My father came and took me home saying there were things that we needed to discuss. As we walked home nothing was said. I tried to pry the information from him but he said nothing of it too me, just that I would find out soon enough. When we sat down at out table he opened a chest and unrolled a cloth. He told me that long ago our family were squires to the Knights of Solamnia. He did not tell me of this sooner because he did not want to lose me like we had both lost my mother. Wrapped in the cloth which turned out to be a white tabbard faded with age, was the scabbard of a long sword. I sat there stunned not knowing what to say never having expected to hear anything such as this. For many days I stayed at home thinking. For 2 years after this I wandered the land, trying to help those that I could, not doing alot but enough to feel good. It was then that by what seemed an accident or perhaps I was always going there I arraived at the gates to a Solamnic keep. I kneeled before the gates and when one of the Knights came out to see what I wanted I offered my services into thier power.
