The Great Library of Palanthas

An Aesthetic shows you to a small reading room.

Stories of Ansalon from the view of Invictus.

A little gully dwarf runs by and says 'Wordwrap is at 65. You change? Off 65 80.'
The gully continues 'Eyes hurt? Turn Color OFF!! (regular story dates)

Astinus says 'Enter the main library here to view only the author list.'
Astinus gently places a bluish black leather-bound book on the table in front of you.
You note the spine bears the word 'Invictus' scribed in dull red ink.

Subject The end of the beginning

A
dark figure sat upon a rock overlooking a cold, windy valley
near
Icewall. Opening a well-worn leatherbound journal, he began
to write in a
neat, practiced script.

Journal entry: Soldai,
16 Sirrimont, 349 AC

The meeting with my mother went about
as well as could be expected. Her
affliction has worsened, and
though she hides the majority of her symptoms,
her lieutenants
tell me they have noticed a marked change in
her
personality.

He paused and looked down into the valley
below. Figures wandered between
rows of neatly laid tents. Others
sat eating near campfires while others
still sparred in circles
drawn into the ground. Two white dragons lie
sleeping near a
large command tent while a third sat nearby tearing apart
some
unfortunate animal. He picked up his pen and continued.

They
also told me of a training mishap in which one of her spells
killed two
draconians and injured a dozen others. When confronted
with this she grew
angry and tried attacking with me a fireball,
which I easily dispelled. She
may have taught me my first spell,
but I am more than her equal now.

He smiled wryly as he
thought of that first cantrip. He was but 6 years old,
but he was
so proud of it. Two weeks later she dropped him off at
a
Palanthian boarding school for mages and he wouldn't see her
again for 11
years. He sought her out and found her employed in a
mercenary army in
Anabansinia. Though he graduated at the top of
his class, she saw still
disdainful of his progress. That was
twenty years ago.

She continued on ranting and raving at me
for a full hour until she finally
grew tired and went to bed. I
placed a velvet-wrapped package near her bed
and departed the
camp having learned a final lesson from my mother:
Unchecked
ambition and want for power can be fatal if not tempered
with
wisdom. Though she was a Highmaster in the Dragonarmies, she
still wanted
more. Her reckless pursuit of forbidden knowledge
was to be her method for
obtaining more temporal power here on
Krynn. In the end, that pursuit caused
her illness and cost her
everything.

He looked up at the sky and smiled. All three
moons were in High Sanction.
Nuitari approved of his course of
action. Snapping the journal shut, he
stuffed it into a backpack
and stood. Casting a final glance down at the
valley, he spoke a
few words and drew a sigil in the air. He blinked out
of
existance.

A massive explosion rocked the valley below.
Everything within it was
incinerated.
