Karenthelsa Summerbreeze, daughter of the Silvanesti white robe Dorotasal Summerbreeze, only made one decision her whole life. Her first memories were of magical training, as her father had decided she would follow him in profession. Karenthelsa, however, did not have the patience required for the arcane arts. And so, in a moment of passion she ran from home, unbeknownst to her that she would never see it again. Her flight took her to the Border Lands north of the Silvanesti woods. Stopping at a small pond, exhausted, Karenthelsa lay down and sleep overtook her. She awoke to the sound of humans. They had surrounded her and she found herself quickly bound, gagged and thrown unceremoniously over a horse. The humans, a khurish band of nomads, rode north. They rode for days and finally arrived at Ak-Tubal, deep in the land of Khur. Although she could not understand the humans, Karenthelsa was able to discover they intended to sell her as a slave. Elven slaves were a rare commodity and she was sold to the nephew of a Khurish khan for a hefty price. She outlived her first owner but was inherited by his son with whom she got pregnant. Her new owner allowed her to keep her child and Karenthelsa named him after her father, Dorotasal. Dorotasal lived the harsh life of a Khurish slave, made harder by his elven blood. Decades of servitude had taken a mental toll on Karenthelsa and she began to impart a crazed hatred of all things magic and elven onto her son. Her owner grew tired of her in the bedroom and had her moved to the kitchen, forcing Dorotasal to resort to thievery to find food. He refused to accept the gods and spirits of the Khurish people, earning him the nickname "Kafir," unbeliever. One night, their owner came to their tent, drunk, demanding to have his way with Karenthelsa. When she refused, her owner flew into an inebriated rage and, drawing his dagger, thrust it into Karenthelsa's chest. He turned his attention to Kafir, intending to kill him as well, but with the last of her strength Karenthelsa lept on the man, pleading for Kafir to flee. Kafir began to flee but stopped outside a few meters from the tent. Drawing his own dagger, Kafir returned to the tent. Their owner, his attention focused once again on Karenthelsa, did not notice Kafir's return until the half-breed's dagger bit sharply into his neck, spilling his life's blood. Kafir looked down at his mother who was beyond help and, without emotion, fled outside, stole a horse and rode north into the Khurish desert. After days of riding, the horse collapsed in exhaustion, just in site of Khuri-Khan. Kafir limped the rest of the way into the city and disappeared into the underworld if Khuri-Khan, intending to carve out a new life for himself.
