Astinus gently places an enormous book on the table in front of you.
You note the spine bears the word 'Mathios' scribed in dark blue ink.

Subject Humble Beginnings

On the hills just outside of Palanthas, a black figure stares down at
unsecure farmlands muttering to himself. "An excelent beginning, yes, the
master will be pleased." From his robe he produces a small pot, some strange
herbs, and a few glass jars. Uttering a small prayer, the pot fills with
water sent from the master. "For you," the figure solemnly speaks as he adds
the herbs to the water. "the city will suffer for you."

Setting a small fire and placing the pot over it to boil, he turns his face
from the fumes knowing he is fully susceptible to the toxins himself. He
catches a glimpse of the great fields and grins. Visions of his master's
future for the city, a desolate ruin wherein no life other than the creeping
death of disease remains dance in his head, and he revels in it for hours-
mindlessly preparing the toxic stew.

Filtering the brownish substance one last time, he chuckles to himself, and
fills the vials, placing each carefully in a pouch on his belt. Vials safely
stored, he walks... slowly... carefully, avoiding all detection, he slips
into the fields of Palanthas...

With systematic dilligence, he adds his poison to the animal's feed,
remorselessly adding every drop he can to each farm's stores. Content with
his work, he grins wickedly and slips from the field back into the city.
There, he waits, watching for the fruits of his labor to bloom.
