The House of Castlemore held Kalaman
together.

The city had a dread history. Before the Cataclysm, it had be the
source of conflict between Solamnia and the Empire of Istar. The Castlemores
kept the city going during the Cataclysm. Many a Castlemore had held the
position of Governor.

True, it wasnt the greatest city in Solamnia, but
Medea was proud of her familys achievements. She also felt the pressure to live
up to such high standards.

Most important to her was following the example
of her father, Auron Castlemore, who died defending the Castle Jochanan during
the Rebellion of Lemish. Auron refused to raise his sword against the peasant
armies of Ragnell of the Sieges.

For that, Medeas father paid for his mercy
with his life.

In truth, such sacrifice was hard for Medea to understand.
When she learned of her fathers fate, she blurted out that it was foolish for a
warrior not to fight. She could hear her mothers response in her head.

Child, what do you know of honor and sacrifice? What do you know of the
Measure?

As her mule stumbled its way towards Palanthas, Medea kept thinking
of her mothers words. She answered aloud, I know nothing. She fingered her
veil a symbol of mourning and a constant reminder that a wise person keeps
their mouth under control.

Medea was alone. She was on a quest to find
herself. She had much to learn, much to live up to, and much to avenge.
