Author: Michael Date: Wed Feb 11 17:51:01 2009 Subject Destiny. On the western coasts of Solamnia, the morning mist rolled off the town of Gwyntarr. It was a small but industrial town; fishing and trade were excellent here. The people were good natured and courtesous, Michael could not recall any real trouble there. His Mother had died during child birth and he had no siblings. His Father was a soldier, a man at arms for the Local Lord. Although not as prestigious as a Knight of Solamnia, his father brought much honor to the Warde family. He had fought, defended, and served with diligence. His father retired and gave Michael the funds to move north to the city of Palanthas, so that he might fulfill his dream of becoming a Knight of Solamnia. He didnt want to fail, he needed to succeed. His father deserved at least that. He had been disheartened to leave his aging father behind, though the sentiment faded when he sailed in to the famed city of Palanthas. Before becoming too immersed in the splendor of the city, he prayed to Kiri-Jolith a prayer of temperance, to resist enticement. He was aware of the wiles the city might entice a man with, gambling, carousing, and woman. He kept his eyes on the mark, and headed for the Solamnic Keep. Exiting the harbor Michael seen many shops and merchants selling their wares, he pushed through the crowds as quickly as he could, trying desperately to guard his pockets from little kinder hands. He ask directions from the citizens of the city, which though curt were helpful. The Temple of Paladine drew him in, perhaps a short stop wouldnt hurt he thought eyeing up the grand Temple. After exploring the grounds and paying a visit to the alter, he left for the keep. Beggers had apparently shown up while he was praying, for the entrance was flooded with hard to do commoners. He gave alms to those he passed, pressing a copper into each hand. He gave a great sigh as he exited the grounds and pressed on through the Imperial Square. The Keep was quite massive and spectacular in its own right. He stopped to appreciate the workmanship; the entrance was flanked by two golded dragon statues. Shaking his head in wonder he opened the front doors and made his way into the Grand Hall he was greeted by a page. He explained that he was here to enlist in the ranks of the prestigious order of knights. The Page brought him to a waiting room and told him to wait till a knight could see him. Michael used the time to prepare his words, but his excitement was such that he couldnt form a complete sentence in his mind. All the stories and adventures he would undertake, all the glorious battles, and honorable deeds he would partake. His heart was about the only thing racing faster and wilder then his mind. When a servant finally summoned him he forgot all he had prepared and simply took a deep breath and strode forth to his destiny. The knight he seen was brief with him, taking his name and walking the keep with him. He gave a basic tour and showed him his room and gave his first orders. To train, not quite the grand induction he was expecting, but he supposed he had to prove his way. Apparently he was to be tested and tried before any formal induction was to take place. Destiny it seemed was still on the horizon.
