Subject Backstory of Tarothin

As Tarothin opens his eyes and stares at the ceiling of the House of
Dracart, he remembers all it took to get there. It all started when he was
88 roughly 165 years old in Human years. He had been raised as a Silvenesti
elf by his mother. His father had been Tanit, Baron of Dracart, son of the
late Lord Verminaard. When he was 88 Dalamar the Dark was exiled from
Silvenesti. Tarothin was instantly curios of Dalamar's power; he began to
look around the cave the Dalamar had been rumored to have spent most of his
time at. Tarothin found the book Dalamar had been using and began to
worship Nuitari. When the other elves found Tarothin wearing the black
robes they instead of just exiling him they offered him a choice, stay in
Silvenesti and renounce Nuitari or leave He chose to leave. Tarothin then
went to the home of his father. He confronted Tanit and killed him. Tanit
had no sons or kin, having killed them to become the Baron of Dracart.
After he had wondered around Krynn for a decade, he met with Ayasana. She
showed him the might of the Knights of Takhisis. Ayasana asked Tarothin
what his goal was. Tarothin told her my goal is to conquer and rule over
Silvenesti. Tarothin awed by the power of the Knights fell on his knees and
forsake Nuitari and pledged himself to Takhisis, but the Dark Queen wouldn't
accept him until he had proven himself.

and two daughters. The eldest son was Tanit, Tarothin's father. The
hierarchy of the House of Dracart was, the eldest son of one generation

practicing dark magic. The two fell in love and for the first time in the
history of Krynn man and elf genuinely loved each other. Life in the Manor

had birthday parties every day of the year. Then when Tarothin was 60 about
14 in human years, a party of Solamnic Knights stormed the castle. The
Knights were repelled, but Tanit and Teatih were killed.

The Dark Years Then Tarothin's stomach clenches as he remembers the years
after that fateful day. They were days filled with despair and darkness.
There however was one beacon of light, the Knights of Takhisis. His mother
and father both worshipped Nuitari. Teatih being a black mage and his
father coming from a family steeped in magic. Tarothin had been trained as
a mage and continues his training during his travels. While he was gone his
oldest Uncle ruled over the Manor in Tarothin's name. While he was
traveling he met Ayasana. Now, Ayasana is a human woman who descended from
Kitiara uth Mater. Ayasana is and was the leader of the Knights of
Takhisis. She took Tarothin under her wing (her dragon wing) and showed him
the ways of the world and how to avoid getting killed. Then she told him
about the Knights of Takhisis. After seeing the might and power of the
might Knights, Tarothin sank to his knees. In a loud voice Tarothin forsake
Nuitari and asked the Dark Queen to accept him. The Dark Queen told him
while he was on his knees that she would not take him until he had proved
himself loyal to her. So Tarothin's first goal is to get the Dark queens
favor. His second goal is to join the Knights of Takhisis. His third and
final goal is to get revenge upon Silvenesti elves for casting his mother
out. He also realizes he will be branded a renegade for making these
decisions.

accept him. Then he heads to the office of the Knights of Takhisis, where

Subject Tarothin's Interview

A skinny mage walks into the throne room of Lady Ayasana, Lady of Night
for the Knights of Takhisis. The mage is approximately 6' 3", he has
almond-shaped eyes and pointed ears the only visible sign of his elven
heritage. The mage is pale, as if he has spent many long nights with
nothing but a book and several candles. An inner fire seems to burn within
his eyes. The mages name is Tarothin. Tarothin feels joy as he realizes
his goal is about to be met. His goal ever since his mother told him about
her exile from Silvenesti. Seeing tears in his mother's e yes he vowed that
to make the Silvenesti elves pay for what they had done to his mother and
learn respect for the black arts. Tarothin finally thought after the long
hours of reading spellbooks and practicing magic he was finally going to see
the fruits of his labors. He was never so wrong in his life. The interview
started as any should, introductions wear made and reasons for joining were
laid bare. It was all going so well until Lady Ayasana asked him about the
vision, the Blood Oath and the Code. Tarothin knew what the vision was.
The vision is the Knights destiny; the Vision should be consulted if the
Knight faces a difficult decision. But when asked to tell about the Vision,
the Blood Oath, and the code in three words Tarothin failed miserably.
Tarothin was told to come back when he had more information. Tarothin
walked out of the room. He seethed; all the hours spent practicing magic,
gone. He had turned toward the Knights of Takhisis when he realized the
conclave help him achieve his goal, Nuitari couldn't help him get his goal.
So he had turned to Takhisis. After all he had sacrificed; he was dismissed
like he was common riffraff. But Tarothin wouldn't let that discourage his
need to fulfill his goal was too great, so he retreated to learn more and to
come back with more information.

Subject Tarothin's Test

Tarothin was nervous there was no getting around it. Today was the day
of his test to get into the Knights of Takhisis. His mentor Moonheart had
told him it would be today. Moonheart had said he wouldn't know when it
would happen it just would. Tarothin walked out of the gates on a mission
from his mentor, to go out and get him some water. Tarothin was thinking
couldn't he just get some water form the wells in Neraka. No, Moonheart had
to have fresh mountain spring water. That was when he saw her. He had
found Ayasana she was grievously injured. For a moment Tarothin here is my
chance kill her now and I become head of the Knights. Then Tarothin
remembered how little he knew of the world. He realized while ambition was
needed for the Knights to survive, they would need the strong hand of
Ayasana. He also realized that he doesn't really want the top position of
the Knights; he just wanted control over Silvenesti. So instead of killing
her Tarothin cleaned her cuts and bandaged her up. Then he carried her back
to Neraka. He reached the gates there was the whoosh and he was facing the
gate from the opposite way he was coming from and he didn't have Ayasana.
He looked around and there was Moonheart smiling at him. Moonheart walked
toward him and explained that Tarothin had just passed his test. Tarothin
was well on his way to being a Knight. Moonheart asked Tarothin to explain
to him again the reasons he had joined the Knights. Tarothin obliged. He
had joined the Knights when he had realized the Conclave couldn't help him
achieve his ultimate goal. His ultimate goal was to control Silvenesti and
show them the power of dark magic. This is why Tarothin joined the Knights
of Takhisis.

Subject War on Kalaman: Journal of Tarothin

Day of Manthas, Corij 376 P. C. After being inducted I was informed of
what the Knights of Takhisis were up to. We are going to attack Kalaman.
My first reaction was one of shock, I had heard rumors but to have them
confirmed so suddenly in front of me was like a slap to my face. I was then
told of my quest to help the war effort. I at first felt belittled by my
quest. To think that my talents would be wasted doing such a menial task.
Then I realized that my quest would help me toughen up so I could cast more
spells more often. So I went out and bought a horse for my quest.
Cheerfully, I rode out of Storms Keep not knowing what dangers awaited me.
Day of Manthas, Argon 376 P. C. It has been I terrible month. I went to
Solace and headed east on information given to me by the Skull Knight Shao.
His directions turned out to be terribly wrong. At first everything was
nice, and then I noticed that the lovely forest I was traveling in was
starting to transition into a swamp. So I was then traveling through a
swamp when I noticed a thick mist beginning to form around my feet. I kept
going but slower, a defensive spell on my lips. When I was completely
surrounded by mist, it attacked. The defensive spell saved my life.
Instead of completely injecting me with its poison, the mistling's poisonous
bite only grazed me. I fled for my life. Completely lost in the seemingly
never ending mist I found my way to a tower. I was at a tower with soaring
buttresses 1000 feet in the air and graceful towers a full 200 feet in the
sky it was amazing. The very tower seemed to rival the gods. Having been
searching for a place to rest a quickly went into the tower. I was in a
small room bare except for a staircase going up to the higher levels of the
tower. I went up the stairs. Some sixth sense told me to duck, so I did.
That sixth sense saved my life for as I ducked a black shadow passed over
me, I looked up and there was a HUGE spider. I quickly went back down the
stairs. I then sent a message to Ryath, leader of the Knights of the Skull
a message on the wings of a spell. After this I laid down to get some rest,
I didn't get any rest for the poison that the mistling had injected me with
was still coursing through my veins. Ryath arrived shortly after nightfall
and transported me back to Storm's keep. All in all I did very well on that
trip, I managed to collect 350 steel and 1751 gold. Know when any one says
what do you think of the War on Kalaman, I say, "War is like magic, it is
very expensive but highly profitable".

Subject The Dream

Shunned by all, even by those he supposed were his parents. Not even
knowing his heritage, his birthright. His father an ex-mervanary,
taught him the basics of fighting, he seemed concerned about how fast
Tarothin learned the skills. Then one night it had all changed, all was
suddenly revealed to him, the truth was revealed in all its stark
ugliness. Tarothin would be changed by this night forever.

He had been having a rough day when he went to sleep that fateful night.
He had been approached in his dream by a strong warrior and I women who
resembled his mother very closely. "Greetings Tarothin," said the
warrior. "How do you know my name," inquired Tarothin while he shifted
uncomfortably.

"I am the goddess Takhisis and this", she pointed to the woman, "is your
great-greatgrandmother Kitiara uth Matar." "My
g-great-greatgrandmother," stammered Tarothin. "Yes you are my
great-greatgrandson Tarothin", said Kitiara," and I have an important
task for you". "What is this task," Tarothin questioned. "You are to",
she smiled, "worship Takhisis and spread her wrath to the elves."
"Takhisis stepped forward," Yes as a member of House uth Matar you are
expected to worship me and if you don't woe be unto you and your
descendents." Never having worshipped a god or goddes beyond the
muttered prayer when the going got rough, Tarothin found it hard to
grasp the concept of a god controlling his life. Deciding that he had
nothing to lose and everything to gain he bowed down to Takhisis, " I
will worship you, My queen." "You were originally born there my
great-greatgrandson," Kitiara said, "You are the greatgrandson of Steel
my beloveded son. Your father was his grandson, he raped a Silvenesti
women durring a raid by the mercanary band he was with into Silvenesti.
When the Silvenesti discovered your mother was pregnant they cast her
out fo the Silvenesti. She traveled long months until she reached the
house you live in now where she gave birth to you. Her last words were
his name is to be Tarothin. Find a member of House Matar and give him
to them. They needless to say had heard of House Matar, in the form of
the Blue Lady", she smiled, "needless to say that was me. They kept you
and raised you as their own, but they never upheld you mother's last
request. Now your Queen Takhisis has a task for you that you must
complete." "I want you to go and bring my wrath down on the Silvanesti
elves," Takhisis continued, "You mothers spirit has told me she wants
revenge for what the Silvenesti did to her, you are to complete this
task," Takhisis elaborated further, "in order to complete this task you
are to seek out the Knights of Takhisis, further train yourself, and
join their ranks." "Their leader Ayasana is my great niece, you are to
seek her out and give her this," Kitaira unbuckled her sword and gave it
to him, "to prove you are my descendent. Now go my great-greatgrandson
and fulfill you task," Kitiara faded out of view. "Fulfill your task
and I will reward you greatly," Takhisis said. With a start Tarothin
woke up, "I will, my Queen."

He walks alone born in pain and sorrow heir to a great family; shunned
by all lost in a sea of unforgiveness never to see the land of hope; so
lonely, so sad few ever take the time to know the one who lives in the
core; He walks alone

As Tarothin rode towards his destination his thoughts were in turmoil.
The sword that clanked everytime the horse took a step only added to
this turmoil, the sword belonged to Kitiara uth Matar, Leader of the
Blue Dragonarmy, and known to her soldiers as the Blue Lady. The sword
was stained with the blood of the innocent and Tarothin heard their
screams echo with each clank of the sword. Then a tug at the back of
his mind alerted him to the fact that his Queen Takhisis had new
instructiosn for him. With a small sigh he gave himself to the state he
called "The Grey". If there were any people on the deserted road he was
traveling they would have been startled at the change that came over
Tarothin. Tarothin's blue eyes which seemed to gaze into eternity
turned grey forever locking eternity inside a steel cage, his tan skin
became grey and cold to the touch, and his cynical smile locked into a
death's grimace. A monk on the road would have thought that he was
meditation, they would have only been half right, it was a strange form
of meditating that required no training, that had been given to him by
Her Majesty Queen Takhisis so he could contact his deceased mother.
"Queen Takhisis is displeased my son, " his mother's voice floated
towards him, through the grey mists that gave "The Grey" its name, "You
failed to reach Sanction in time to talk to Ayasana. Takhisis has
however, decided to give you another chance." "What is my Queen's
bidding, mother," Tarothin inquired while silently thanking Takhisis for
giving him another chance. "You are to head towards Nightluud and wait
for Ayasana's arrival at Dargaard Keep," his mother stated calmly.
"Dargaard Keep, but that is the him of the death knight Lord Soth,"

Tarothin blanched at the idea. "I said Takhisis had given you another
chance. I did not say that it would be easy," his mother scolded him.
Deciding that it was a a better idea to go then argue further Tarothin
nodde his assent and snapped back to reality. Instantly grey eyes became
blue again, cold skin grew warm and regained its colour, his face reset
in its cynical experission. He reined his horse in and stopped,
figuring that where they were would be a good enough spot as any to make
camp. As Tarothin approached Dargaard Keep he felt the air grow colder
and colder. The through a break in the trees he saw Lord Soth. Soth
was imposing in his ancient solamnian armor, a black rose just visible
on his breastplate. Soth was imposing in his ancient solamnian armor, a

of the death knight, Soth shouted, "HALT!! ". His horse skittering to
a halt all Tarothin could hear was the beating of his own heart.
Suddenly the death knight looked directly at the sword Tarothin was
wearing, the sword that had belonged to Kitiara uth Matar. In a
commanding tone he asked, "Who are you who come to my Keep and bears the
sword of Kitiara uth Matar. " With his head held high Tarothin said, "I
am Tarothin uth Matar, great-great grandson of Kitiara uth Matar. "

"Why then do you ride to my Keep, " Soth again used the same commanding
tone. "I was sent here by her Dark Majesty, Queen Takhisis to await
Ayasana uth Matar's arrival," Tarothin replied. "We shall see wether or
not you survive till then, "Soth replied ominously.

Subject On a Cliff

Tarothin walked down the hall in Vingaard Keep, the song "The Knight of
the Black Rose" sung by banshees drifted down the hall with him. The words
echoed endlessly giving the impression they never stopped singing. The
words haunted him, reminding him endlessly of how the goddess he was serving
corrupted people. As his thoughts turned towards his recent history he
absently caressed the hilt of the sword that hung at his waist. The sword
that belonged to somebody so much more evil than he thought he could ever
be. Yet her blood ran through his veins however diluted it may have been.
He felt like he was walking along the edge a great cliff, one slip and he
would fall. To one side was a darkness so dark that no light could exist in
it. To the other side was a bleak exist as an outcast. Promises had been
made to him when he made his dark pact and they had not been delievered. He
was beginning to regret his decision, for it had led him to these bleak
halls. Stuck in a castle with a Death Knight, fearing everyday that Soth
would lose is patiance and kill him outright. But he know that Baroness
Ayasana uth Matar, was coming. Everytime he enter The Grey his long dead
mother told him that she was coming. Everyday he had believed her until
today, today he had doubted. Maybe she wasn't coming, maybe his decietful
goddess had lured him there to teach him the price of failure. He had
failed, that much was clear, he had failed in reaching Sanction before
Baroness Ayasana had left. But the sword, the sword warmed everyday the
tortured screams of the souls that had been killed by it getting louder.
The sword told him something was going to happen. Something that involved
someone of his ancestors blood. Or at least someone that had known her. He
gave up trying to puzzle out the mysteries. In his soul he knew what he had
commited to was wrong, but at the same time he knew that his other options
were bleaker. With a resigned sigh he turned into his quarters and buried
his worries and fears in the blanket of sleep. But even his dreams were
haunted by his ancestor and Lord Soth. He could not find peace in that
place.

Tarothin came out of the grey with a jolt. His mother's parting words
echoing in his ears, "It was your punishment for not meeting with her the
first time. No go my son and do not feel Her Majesty again. " As it had
turned out Baroness Ayasana uth Matar had not stopped at Dargaard Keep and
her Dark Majesty had lied to him to make him endure the haunted halls of the
keep, and the dead who walked them. He had been told that she was now
headed for Jelek, the to Neraka. With a sigh he began to pack, his hand
resting briefly on the sword that had started the entire journey. Buckling
it on he headed for the stables.
