- Chapter 1 - 'Life before banishment' Life before banishment was an absolute bore, the unyielding structure and routine of the Dargonesti peoples was suffocating (Try explaining that concept to a bunch of immortal creatures surrounded by water and tight dark spaces). My family was no exception, rules, rules and once again more rules. To live outside the confines of what our society deemed the norm was to be an outcast. I was that prototypical outcast from nearly the day I was born. Magic was not a new concept to us sea folk, power was. The same boring spells, the same boring masters. It was never encouraged to gain more knowledge than what was needed to go about your day to day and to be able to protect your home from the occasional raid from neighbouring Koalinth settlements. By my second year of schooling, I was bored of the mundane spells we were being taught, was I a master at casting them, certainly not. Being masterful at the art required time and patience... Something all elves have. Becoming powerful though required more, a craving... no a calling I've had since as long as I could remember. My masters hated my never ending questioning, my peers hated my disruptions and like that, I was an outcast. Did it bother me? yes, I loved social interactions. Such was not to be my life though. Eventually it didn't bother me, they didn't like me fine. Life continued on as such for years, my family I fear didn't much like me much either. The embarrassment I brought them with the constant reports of my unique nature, it wasn't long before I was shipped off from our ancient and long lived homestead in Watermere to a relatively new settlement in the long lived history of my peoples, Istar. Istar was in need of defenders, under constant assailment from the Koalinth and rumours of a Sea dragon leading them from the darkest depths of the ocean. In Istar my craving for power was slightly less frowned upon, slightly. My dwellings consisted of an odd shaped one bedroom inside of a larger complex. Everything in Istar was so symmetrical, so alien to ever other settlement I have ever visited. Within the next several months, I had learned many more defensive and even offensive spells. I excelled at them, the team I fought with although they didn't like me they grudgingly respected my abilities. This brings me to the banishment, that fateful day. Having gone a good several months without attack I had become bored, No one wanted to talk to me and I didn't much want their attention anyways. I was going to explore, the deeper part of the Istarian ruins were restricted. No one was allowed to enter, a decree directly from the Speaker of the moons himself. What they don't know couldn't hurt them. After spending months practicing my invisibility wards I was ready to defy the law and seek knowledge of power from the aliens that had created this beautiful yet haunting civilization. The happens of that day I will write out in much more depth later, suffice to say I met my first friend. A forbidden friendship paired with forbidden knowledge, I would have been executed but it was deemed to fair a punishment for my crimes. Exile was my punishment, the gravest punishment. Such fools they were, for my crimes I was given the greatest gift of all, the gift of freedom.
