What is a MUD?
MUD is short for Multi-User Dungeon/Dimension. They are the precursors to modern-day MMORPG's. Compared to such games, MUD's take next to no resources to operate or play. Almost any computer on any OS can connect to and play a MUD. They are entirely text based experiences, so pack your reading and typing skills for the journey ahead!
Ansalon
Ansalon is a MUD that has been around practically forever. I myself have played on and off there since 1998 or 1999. It's got a ton of areas, plenty of races, and a nice variety of classes. The code is updated several times a week and the players are generally friendly.
Get a MUD client.
- Zmud is good client for Windows XP based computers.
- Mushclient is a very and flexible client that actually runs on Vista. Woot woot.
- Gmud is easy to run, but lacks many of the more advanced features of Zmud and Mushclient.
- Putty will work, but not too well.
- The Ansalon Website has a Java client that you may have to use if your at work/school. (Do this at your own risk)
- Mudgamers has a really good Java Client. Just click the "PLAY NOW" button that page.
- Telnet is a last resort. It comes standard with most versions of Windows.
Ansalon's address is ansalonmud.com, port: 8679. Enter these into the appropriate fields of your MUD client and connect at will.
