Intelligence is part of your character Score, it is how smart your character currently is.

You find it displayed as: INT: 14(22) [18] The first being Permanent or Trained stat, the second is current stat due to equipment or spell effects, the last being how high you can train your maximum.

Intelligence is one of the key leveling stats, affecting how well you learn skills and spells when using practices in addition to how fast they will improve as they are used. Intelligence also affects spellcasting with low INT negatively affecting your ability to cast spells. Intelligence factors into your ability to speak with low INT resulting in grunting speak.
