Intelligence is part of your character Score, it is how smart your character currently is.
You find it displayed as: INT: 14(22) [18] The first being Permanent or Trained stat, the second is current stat due to equipment or spell effects, the last being how high you can train your maximum.
Intelligence affects spell casting, ability to speak (below 7 and you grunt, below 3 and it's like skeleton, barely animate), as well as improving spells and skills through useage.
