Aryx's Guide to Creation

Plan Ahead
Before throwing yourself at Ansalon's walls of text, you should probably figure out what kind of character you want to make. I've got a little check-list I go through each time I make a character.
- Do you want to be PK? If you're planning on being PK figuring out a good race/class combo tends to be a lot more important than if you choose to noPK.
- Choose a Race and Class.
- Think of what your weaknesses will be, be they low Leveling Stats or a specific vulnerability. Races that give free access to skills can be great picks if those skills aren't available to your intended class.
- Choose a Name.
- Google that name. Make sure it isn't copywritten or used in any Dragonlance book ever. If it is you'll end up having to change it down the road or get denied during creation.
- Think of your RP plans and what god you want to follow. I usually work on this while actually creating my character.
Creation
- Customize. Default characters are piss poor when it comes to skill selection. Check your Class page on the Wiki for suggestions, and don't be afraid to ask around on the MUD for other tips.
- As a general rule, always take any defensive abilities available to you Parry, Dodge, Shield Block, Phase.
- Avoid free web email addresses. Places like Hotmail are sometimes used by banned players in attempts to create.
- Help files can be your friend.
The Post Birth Hangover
Well you've been pooped out into the world of Mud School. What now?
- First, find the training/practicing rooms.
- I recommend training your Constitution or Wisdom (or a mix of both). I prefer getting them maxxed as soon as possible. It reduces the work I need to spend on the next part.
- First things first get yourself a set of Leveling Equipment together.
- In the first room of Mud School there is a mob that gives mobquests for better gear. Do them all, it will help you get your Leveling Stats where they need to be.
- Hit the arena with autoloot on. Try to get at least one of every piece of newbie gear to get your stats as high as you can. Once you've gotten out you can work on acquiring some other pieces of Leveling Equipment.
Oh no, Mud School is over. WHAT DO I DO NOW!?!?
Relax. Now is a good time to write a Description for your character and set a new Title. You'll want more hours before you push leveling too hard, so find a Questmaster and do some quests. Write a background on the story board. It will come in handy later as most Clans require a background story to join. Do some roleplay or chat it up on OOC
I'm still bored
Go level then. Check the Zones articles for ideas or head on over to the Leveling Guide.
