The Great Library of Palanthas

Astinus' Office

Dominating the center of this room is a massive birch desk. Legend claims this desk has supported the thousands of volumes of history Astinus has recorded. A large pot of ink, a container of sharpened quills, and a candelabra complete the desks decorations. Small windows line the room, allowing light to trickle in and gently illuminate the entire room. A comfortable couch rests against the west wall. Tapestries hang on the walls between the windows. Shelves line the walls, filled with tomes of the more recent records of heroes and villians upon the face of Krynn.

The librarian notices you aren't reading anything... Astinus hands a small book to an Aesthetic standing by you. You note the spine bears the word 'Amsel' scribed in glowing blue ink. As you glance down at the page you read..

From the pages of Amsel's book..

Author: Amsel Date: Sat Apr 5 15:39:43 2014 Subject How I got the name Stickerknot

My mother was actually named Merlera Stoneflinger -- she could hit a town guard between the eyes at forty feet, which all of us in Staughton thought was excellent fun -- well, all of us kender anyway -- not so much the town guards. Turned out, though, my aim wasn't nearly so good, and my throwing arm was lousy. My mother says when I was a little kender all I wanted to do was grub around in the dirt, and when I was ten, someone figured out why I couldn't hit anything AND why I liked the ground so much -- I was as nearsighted as a mole!
Well, for a few years I thought I'd never be able to do ANYTHING because I couldn't see as well as any of the other kender, and maybe I'd have to spend the rest of my life in a library staring at books and running into walls all the time, which sounds terribly boring, not to mention bad for your nose, but then a wonderful thing happened. This very clever gnome passed through town, this gnome that made glasses, and he gave me a pair -- at least, he left it out on a table and went off and left it alone, which I took to mean he didn't want it anymore, so I took it. And thanks to that marvelous gnome, I became well, not exactly eagle-eyed, but maybe stork-eyed or duck-eyed at the very least -- what sort of animal is there that can see well ENOUGH, but not QUITE as good as an eagle? Oh, never mind. You know what I mean. I still couldn't throw worth a damn, but I took a liking to the bow, and spent my days creeping around in the woods putting holes in things (not ALIVE things, though, unless I was really hungry, you understand).
I spent so much time in the woods that every night my mother would have to comb all sorts of burrs and stickers and junk out of my hair, which was awful -- all that pulling, you know -- how I'd scream! And she'd always say, "What am I going to do with you, Stickerknot?" and the name kind of stuck -- uh, pardon the pun -- and soon everyone started calling me Stickerknot. Now I'm a regular explorer, and I have to comb the stickers out of my hair myself -- isn't it weird how it doesn't hurt as much when you're doing it to yourself? I wonder why that is? I still don't like to be in the city very much because people have a lot of really interesting things but I have to get my face up really close to actually get a good look at them -- remember, I'm still not eagle-eyed -- chicken-eyed at best -- and they always get all worked up about it, and when people get worked up I usually end up in jail. People certainly are peculiar, and no mistake. Animals, on the other hand, don't seem to care how much you look, so long as you don't scare 'em. Someday I want to explore all of Krynn and make a list of all the animals I see. I only have two pages right now, though, so if you see any interesting beasts out there, let me know. (I already have "Goatsucker Bird.")
