Regions

Hello Everyone,

We are excited to announce that we have added a new field to every area called “Regions“.  We believe that this is going to allow us to add a lot of cool features in the upcoming years.  So far they are already in use by adding a modifier to the long description of all of the random equipment.

Some of the possible new features we have planned using the new regions are being able to teleport out mobs/objects to a specific region instead of the entire mud (think item recovery quests, Carter style mob quests, QP token spreading, etc).  Another instance where they will be used is in all of the randomly generated items that you get from mobs (the figurines, food, drink containers, etc) will be able to take advantage of them.  Instead of “a statue of Mishakal” it could be “a statue of Mishakal of Solamnian make”.

Another feature based off of regions could be random invasion style mini-quests where a region is picked at random and then mobs are generated based off of that region and whoever kills the most of that mob would win some sort of prize (something like 100 or 150 QP, etc).  We could also use this same style of system for object collection quests being automated and more frequent based off of region.

There are also plenty of possibilities here that we haven’t thought of yet and we encourage you to write ideas on how to utilize regions.

For reference Solinari has put together this map outlining where the regions fall on the map of Ansalon.  For the most part we try to keep area locations accurate to this map.   To take a look at a larger version of this map just click on it, you can also right click on it and “Save Link As..” to download the higher resolution (4374 x 2916px) version.
