Subject The Vastness of the Sea

Was years ago, when I was but a lad that the sea began to govern my fate. My
mother bore me in the belly of my da's merchant ship. Later he told me it was
the worst storm he'd ever weathered at sea.

The first being when the sea godess Zeboim tried to swallow him whole, in a
manner of speaking. I was brought up to be god fearing, respect those that
controlled the seas and fear them equally.

Never quite took hold.

I was brash in my youth, can't say that it was terribly long ago, but in a
time I considered my youth. I stole a small boat, and took it from the harbor
of Ergoth out into the sea.

Was then that I understood what my old man tried to drill in my head. The
ocean was vast, greater than anything I'd imagined. Seeing it from the shore
or a harbor with land in sight holds nothing to the reality of being
completely, utterly surrou surrounded by it. To feel Zeboim biding her time,
waiting to swallow you with one breath of air, one stirring of the deep.
Terrifying. Liberating.

To live at sea, to work at sea, was a thrill far greater than the depths and
madness of battle. To be so out of control, caught in the vastness of sky,
water, and the world. That was my life.

My reklesness, however, went unappreciated in the fine cities of Ergoth, and
so I left. Like I said, I was brash. So I left in a manner which did not
guarantee much hospitality upon returning. Was a thumping fine ship that I
brought with me though.

I began living life on a whim. Taking in those that harbored no loyalty to
their berths and finding swag where I could.

And then it was that I lost what I gained, to those whom I had taken on. I
risked a little too much, sailed a little too far, and turned a little too
much to the divinations of Zeboim. And I was kicked ashore to live cursedly on
land. But not for long. Oh no, not for long- for I had found a new crew, and a
new home, far more fitting for me than ever before.

Those that took me on were just as reckless, just as mad, and just as dark as
I. That new home is the Stier.
