Author: Aslewaen

Subject Trapped up a tree

I should have realised earlier why it was so quiet in the forest that
morning but Quiloth had stressed the importance of the herbs she needed to
treat the wounds of the humans we had found in the village bordering on our
forest.

Others in the community ridiculed her for wanting to save the lives of mere
humans and yet she stressed that it was our place as followers of Quenesti
Pah to heal all not only the High Elves of the forest.

As luck would have it I was high up in a tree scraping mould off the bark
when the silence of the forest was broken but the guttural growls and grunts
of a marauder hunting party down below. Reaching into my pouch of belongings
I hurriedly grabbed the twisted stick that I had been promised was a wand of
obfuscation and while trying not to think about the long fall down to the
ground or one of those brutes down below seeing me up in the tree, i
completed the incantation that would allow me to remain hidden while the
moved past below me.

I had to stop myself from vomiting in disgust as the stench of rotting flesh
wafted up from the forest floor as they moved past and I made the mistake of
looking down at the assortment of goblins, hobgoblins and ogres all with
trophies from their last skirmish. The one ogre had a thigh bone, with flesh
and sinews still hanging from it as a club. He was using to prod and poke
three miserable looking human men leading 6 donkeys carrying large sacks
filled with mangled farming implements.

It was a long 10 minutes I sat up that tree praying that none of them would
catch a smell of me as they moved off down wind but once I was sure they
were gone I slid down the tree extra fast and ran back to the village with
all the speed I could muster.

Out of breath and with the shock of their disregard for the dead still
clouding my mind I babble incoherently to the guard trying to explain to him
what I had seen. At first they thought I was mad but when Ilshan an
experienced hunter and his young apprentice returned from scouting the area
I had been in the guard was doubled and word spread quickly through our tree
top village of the marauders who where nearby.
