The Great Library of Palanthas

Astinus' Office

Dominating the center of this room is a massive birch desk. Legend claims this desk has supported the thousands of volumes of history Astinus has recorded. A large pot of ink, a container of sharpened quills, and a candelabra complete the desks decorations. Small windows line the room, allowing light to trickle in and gently illuminate the entire room. A comfortable couch rests against the west wall. Tapestries hang on the walls between the windows. Shelves line the walls, filled with tomes of the more recent records of heroes and villians upon the face of Krynn.

The librarian notices you aren't reading anything... Astinus hands a tattered paperback to an Aesthetic standing by you. You note the spine bears the word 'Guthan' scribed in unearthly yellow ink. As you glance down at the page you read..

From the pages of Guthan's book..

Author: Guthan Date: Thu Dec 11 16:50:53 2008 Subject Guthan MacLanisca... Son of Caergoth To whom it concerns as they reside in such an office as is fit to review this petition for entrance into the Solamnic Order, my name is Guthan of the House Lanisca of Caergoth. My father is Elixander Lanisca, who faithfully served the Lord of Caergoth Cedrick Veritan as his Weaponsmaster in years past. My father was a minor Knight of Solamnia as I understand it, though due to his attention to his service of Lord Cedrick, he has not given any great consideration to his Knighthood in my lifetime, having chosen instead to focus on his duties to his Lord. Consequently he has told me very little of his standing or place in the Knighthood, and the circumstances that compel me to pen this petition without the opportunity to consult with him about it I will detail below. As you know, the borders of Solamnic lands were threatened by maurader invasions to the south east stemming from the Khalkist Mountains. When the call for volunteers was posted in Caergoth, my friend and I signed on. For two years we fought for Solamnia, first by rebuffing the initial forces of the invasions, and later by patrolling our homeland looking for the scattered pockets of the invaders who did manage to slip by. We served under Solamnic Knights for the bulk of our experience in the two years we spent fighting, and despite being unable to integrate fully into the Solamnic Knight's forces, we made ourselves useful as willing combatants in the defense of our homeland wherever possible. With the threat to our homelands largely subsided at this point in time, I have therefore decided (with the urging of one of my Solamnic officers) to petition for acceptance into the Solamnic Knights. I am currently residing in Palanthas, having accompanied a group of refugees displaced by the fighting near Gerighelm to Palanthas along with the Solamnic officer who urged me to write this petition and a handful of volunteers we served with. This is the reason I am unable to corrospond with my father as to the finer points of etiquette regarding this petition, for which I apologize now. I have trained with my father since I was a boy in the ways of Knightly Combat. I find my strength though in asking Paladine for guidance, which has led to my drawing certain abilities through his grace by prayer. I ask you humbly now, as I ask of Paladine, for acceptance into your order so that I can better defend our homelands against invasion and protect our people from injustice. Thank you, Guthan MacLanisca di Caergoth.
