The Sun was just beginning to dip below its zenith as Jasim crested the next hill. He hated the heat of the midday sun, but he had planned his day accordingly. The air was cool coming across the Northern Kharolis and a gentle breeze was keeping Jasim cool and refreshed. The scent of Vallenwood mingled with invigorating cold mountain air. Looking ahead in the distance, Jasim stared out over the rolling landscape towards Prayer's Eye Peak. He took a deep breath of the fresh mountain air and closed his eyes just soaking in the moment. He never got enough of seeing that glorious sight, the magnificent vista of the Sentinel Peaks. He had spent much of his youth hiking up and down these hills. His curiosity pushed him onward to explore every crevice, glen, and valley between Solace in the east and the plains of Abanasinia in the west. A {Q!BOOM! suddenly hit Jasim, rocking the ground he was standing on and jolting him out of his daydreaming. The hair on his arms and the back of his neck stood straight out. The air itself seemed to crackle with static and energy. What in the Nine Hells was that? Magic...definitely. Wild, chaotic magic. Something felt very off and very wrong. Jasim's fingers danced and his voice was but a mere whisper as he traced the {oa{pr{oc{pa{on{pe symbols and spoke the words of a {oscrying spell. His vision lifted up, rising higher In his minds eye he could see the forest and mountain range stretching for miles. There! What was it though? A person...? Jasim concentrated and his vision focused, zooming in towards the small humanoid creature who seemed to be fiddling with something. A FLASH of bright white light stunned Jasim for a moment and the {oscrye spell faded, but not before Jasim saw it was a gnome and realized that whoever he saw, was no longer there. He must investigate. Jasim quickly made his way to where he last saw the gnome, using his magic to {Ospeed his travels across the terrain. The acrid smell of {oburnt sulfur lingered in the air and a strange electrical sensation crawled on Jasim's skin. This was not the magic of the Conclave. This was wild and chaotic - Dangerous magic. He should report this to the Conclave immediately, but he also knew that he must find out more while he had the chance. The lingering traces of magi{Pc wouldnt remain for long. Jasim quickly made a decision. Power sparked from the tips of his fingers and he vanished. (Cont.)

Jasim found himself standing on a street in Solanthus. But where was that gnome? Everything appeared normal, but this is where the trail led and where it ended. A few passersby startled at Jasim's sudden appearance, noted the Red Robes of the Conclave of Wizards, and they quickened their pace and disappeared from sight. Jasim had not expected to appear in the middle of Solanthus, he had just followed the trail of magi{Pc. Jasim had been in Solanthus during his travels and knew that as a large city in the middle of Solamnia, the people here were wary of wizard. He pulled the cowl of his robes over his head to hide his face and moved off to a less-trafficked side street. No reason drawing unnecessary attention, especially considering that he still didnt have a clue what he was dealing with. Jasim spent a few moments trying to {oscrye, feeling around...nothing. He walked up and down a couple of streets...nothing. Then he rounded the corner of a small alleyway and the air crackled with energy. Jasim spun around on his heels. Standing at the far end of the alleyway was the gnome holding a very strange device. Mul{Oticolored lights danced around the gnome. Jasim readied the words to a {Psleep spell in his mind and his hand instinctively went to the dagger on his belt. He moved forward cautiously. As Jasim approached he realized the gnome seemed to be in a bit of distress and he appeared somewhat translucent. The gnome noticed Jasim and began babbling. Jasim had some experience dealing with gnomes. He had been very curious about their tinkering ability and the contraptions they create, but this gnome was too excited to slow down his speech at all and Jasim was having a hard time following his words. His name was Gnimsh? Something about a device... broken... he needs to find pieces... he needs help. Jasim realized the gnome was asking him for assistance. Jasim began to respond and ask the gnome to slow down, but suddenly the gnome's eyes grew wide and he gave a shout as the air began to crackle with energy. He shoved an object in Jasim's hands just before he vanished in a Flash. The flash momentarily blinded Jasim. He had been so preoccupied with trying to understand what the gnome was saying that he had not noticed the chaotic magical energies that had begun to build around them. Well, it was done now. The gnome was gone again. Jasim stared at the object in his hand. It appeared to be a piece of a larger device, some kind of backplate. A gem-encrusted golden backplate. Jasim noticed some writing on the inside edge. It seems to be part of a larger verse: 'Its expanses you see,'. Jasim knew that he must report this to the Conclave immediately.
